Zarafa Feature List

Appointment requests

Sending and accepting of appointment requests. Simply click on the Accept button in the message and the appointment will be automatically incorporated in the calendar. An appointment with 5 persons is easily planned.

Free/busy information
View co-worker’s appointment information in one overview. You can easily
see where to create a new appointment in overly planned calendars.

AJAX Webaccess
Even if you don’t have your own computer at hand, you can always gain access to
all of your Outlook information. The information will be presented in the familiar Outlook lay-out. The webaccess offers you all the presented functionalities.

Unique to Zarafa is the fact that the information shown is real-time requested. There is no separate synchronization between the client and the server. All your changes in the webaccess can be directly viewed in Outlook: ‘read/unread’ status, subfolders and flags are visible. When you send an email from your computer at home, it still is visible in the same ‘Sent Items’ folder in Outlook.

Outlook from outside the network
You can login from your computer at home to the Zarafa server through a safe and fast solution. You can work like you are at the office. This functionality can be used with Outlook2000, OutlookXP, Outlook2003 and Outlook2007.

PDA and Smartphone support
You can synchronize your Outlook information with your PDA. This way, you have your information always present, no matter where you are. Via the opensource project opensource for mobile communication Z-Push you can even have Push Mail on your PDA or Smartphone.

Offline Synchronization

If you find yourself temporarily without a connection to the internet, you can still work with your current Outlook information. When the internet connection returns, you can synchronize all the changes between the server and the client. All the mail you sent when you were off-line will be sent when the connection to the server returns. Very convenient, especially when you travel a lot and do not always have access to the internet.

Quota support
With Zarafa you have the ability to set the maximum mailbox size per user. There are three levels of quota: warning, soft, and hard. These settings allow you to specify when a user should receive a warning, when a user is unable to send new emails, and when no new items can be created at all.

Active Directory / LDAP integration

Zarafa can be coupled with existing Active Directory or other LDAP servers, like OpenLDAP. With this integration you can use Zarafa very easily in your existing network situation; simply point Zarafa at your LDAP server, configure which attributes should be used, and Zarafa will automatically import all your users into the Zarafa database. This list is then kept up-to-date throughout the time that Zarafa runs, real-time.

POP3 / IMAP support
Via a POP3 / IMAP gateway you can always retrieve your email from the Zarafa database. Users working with POP3 or IMAP clients like Thunderbird can therefore use the same mail store as your Outlook users, ensuring that e-mails are never stored twice and that everything is always in-sync.

Storage

All information is stored in a central, stable MySQL database. With this comes the great advantage of an easy-to-execute daily backup.

Other

Https for secure access to the server.

Colaboration with spamfilters to deliver spam mail to the junkmail folder.

Soft Deletes: deleted mail can still be recovered within a set period.

Support for groups to ease the maintenance of setting access rights.

Support for distributionlists, to send emails to groups.
